KLBJ Presents “Johnny Walker Live” at Antone’s on Saturday, February 25th from noon to 3:30. It’s a celebration of the life of the legendary Johnny Walker, who was a DJ on KLBJ in the ’90s and 2000s. Those who remember him will remember his tradition of kicking off the weekend by playing the extended version of Soulhat‘s “Bonecrusher” every Friday at 5:00.
This is an early show. Doors open at noon, and The Patrice Pike Band will open the show. Johnny was a friend to Patrice, and was a regular at her earlier bands’ Sister 7 and Little Sister’s residencies at The Black Cat Lounge and Steamboat. Then get ready for some Bonecrushin‘! The headliner for the show is Soulhat, featuring all the living members of the band.
Johnny’s son Tyler will give the eulogy, and Johnny’s former sidekick “Powermouth” Patty is flying in from California to share some memories.
A portion of the proceeds from the show will be donated to Dell Children’s. Johnny was a volunteer at Children’s Hospital of Austin.
