RESOURCES

[8/31/03] In site news, with the passing of Live Soulhat Audio, we've decided to get a little more bandwidth and start serving up some music again. Don't go crazy or y'all will knock the site down, again, just like you used to do in the old days, out at texas.net, was it? Music is at Soulhat Audio. Be kind.

We're also pleased to announce a strange, cool revival of old Soul Hat Audio going on at sharingthegroove.org. Since August, quite a few old shows are being posted there as Bit Torrent downloads. If you're not familiar with Bit Torrent, you will need to read up on it, download some software, and then look for postings at sharingthegroove.org. Bit Torrent most certinaly is an ingenious way to distribute lossless quality SHN/FLAC. The more the merrier, so get on over there, get some good music, and share some of that fancy bandwidth you got too while you're at it!

[10/1/02] McVein IN GREEN, Kevin McKinney's first album-length solo effort was released on Shat Records on May 24, 2002. The album features eleven tracks including: Rot with You, Tornadic, $5 Man, Best Thing, Goodbye, Killers Thieves & Conmen, T.V. Factory, City People, Shame, Lovesong #17, and I'm No Rapper. The CD will be available in Austin at Waterloo Records (6th & Lamar) and Jupiter Records (41st & Red River). Outside of the capital city? Please visit Chocolate Records on the Internet.

Itching to know more about it? Here's a link to our review of McVEIN IN GREEN. Here's a link to the Austin Chronicle's review. And here's a link to an interview with Kevin from Austin's InSite Magazine back in August 2002.

[5/31/02] In our reorganization effort, all news will now appear on the home page, then will be archived on the News Archives page. The Resources page will now be less-frequently updated.

EXPERIMENT ON A FLAT PLANE was first widely released on September 12, 2000. You can order it NOW from Terminus Records in Atlanta or Waterloo Records, or amazon.com.

We received our preview copy of the new LP on 7/14/00 and immediately posted the track names and production credits. If you want to read our review of the new record, please be our guest. You may also read two 2000 Austin Chronicle reviews [1, 2], the Austin American-Statesman review and...

ADDED Dec. 2000: five Fall 2000 reviews from Pop Matters, the Charleston City Paper, Durham, NC's Aiding & Abetting, Mish-Mash Indie Reviews, and PauseRecord (added 11/00).

[Updated 2-19-01] We posted a FAQ, with answers to some of your most-asked questions, in December 1999. In the Spring of 2001, we updated it, but it's still largely a work in-progress. If you have any information you feel we've left out, drop us a line. All other news can be found at the News Archive.

Live Soulhat Audio features MP3 / WMA audio from live performances. You can download the rotating set of songs individually or stream via Soulhat Radio 24 hours-a-day (provided you have a high-speed connection). The site is well-designed and constantly changing, so check it out. This link takes you to another site.

Compressed music files of legally recorded live performances are for your personal enjoyment and should not be traded, sold or used for profit. All songs and lyrics © 1990-2001 Soulhat & rights to their use for any purpose are reserved exclusively by the band.

Update (8/30/03): like so many web sites do, Live Soulhat Audio & Soulhat Radio have vanished. We'll leave their link up in case they someday reuturn. Until then, enjoy the reprise of their greatest hits.

Copyright violation is against the law. To read the band's current policy on live taping, please visit the Bands that Allow Taping website. To read more about copyright law as it pertains to the sale of live performances, visit Soulhat Web's Copyright Information Notice.

You can visit Soulhat Web's gallery of Soulhat concert art. Or our reproduction of the Steamboat Gallery to see some photos of the band, or a site we found, featuring pictures of the new lineup at Celis Fest in 1998. Note: the links don't work on the Steamboat Gallery, since their web site shut down after the club closed for business. We only grabbed that one page. You can also see photos of the band within the text of our main bio page.

We're finally beginning to accumulate a decent amount of press from the ancient to recent past. You can read about Soulhat from a recent (2000) show review at Austin Rocks or in the Austin Chronicle, which praised the trio in 1996, or their review of the the self-titled EP (1998). Or the impressive showing Soulhat made at the 1994 Austin Music Awards. ADDED LAST SPRING: did you miss the December 1994 Soulhat spread (three pages) in the Austin Chronicle? You can read or print the full text of the article, or view a scan of the accompanying reviews of Good to be Gone & Too Gone to be Good. If you would like to read a our review of Experiment on a Flat Plane, please be our guest.

NEW ADDITIONS: You may also want to check-out two 2000 Austin Chronicle reviews [1, 2], the Austin American-Statesman review, and three new reviews from Pop Matters, the Charleston City Paper and Durham, NC's Aiding & Abetting (added 11/00).

PR View the Sony press releases from the rerelease of Outdebox and Good to Be Gone. Or if you're looking for more biographical information about the band, try our Biography links.

RECONSTRUCTED VITAE: Read Frosty's resume and discography (this is the information that used to be at BigJam.com). Don't quite know what happened there.

BONECRUSHER: You asked for it, you got it...the lyrics to Bonecrusher. Not for the more easily offended of us. Did we get it right? Several of you have different interpretations of the lyrics. Guess we can always change them. Let us know how you feel.

SETLISTS: We used to post setlists. But we're really bad with setlists. You are welcome to submit them, however as we will be unable to attend every performance.

LIVE TAPING: Soulhat currently allows live taping of their shows. Audience recordings only (no soundboards) are encouraged by the band. Venues may have their own policies, though, so try to be flexible. Soulhat's taping policy is outlined on the Bands That Allow Taping web page.

FAQ: Didn't find an answer to your question? Read the FAQ and if you're still in need, drop us a line.

If you have any suggestions, links, photos, posters or other memories, share them with the web designers.
